She & Him are a duo consisting of actress Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward. I discovered this band after listening to the 500 )Days of Summer soundtrack which also featured the awesome “Sweet Disposition” by the Temper Trap. A cover of a Smiths song “Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want” by She & Him was also on the soundtrack which prompted me to go out and research a little more about the band. Having no idea that Zooey Deschanel (one of the lead actresses in the film) was also a musician, I was pleasantly surprised by the music they had produced. They’ve now released two albums (simply titled Volume 1 and 2) which both feature sweet, sugary, sun-filled dittys across the length of both LPs and I’ve been hooked on them ever since. There’s two tracks I’ll be sharing now, one from each album, and each will give you an idea of what to expect on both releases. Both tracks convey the same light and hazy feel and it makes for great music for the upcoming summer. (Tip: keep an ear out for the mouth-trumpet solo in “This Is Not a Test”).
