Coldplay have revealed their first single from their new album “Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends” (set to be released 12th June) this afternoon on BBC Radio 1. The single is available free at their official site Coldplay.com, but if like me you had problems accessing the site while millions of others do, you can check it out here. It’s quite a rocky affair, featuring a guitar solo, a drumming, driving beat and while it may signal the departure from their old sound that they’ve suggested would be happening from this new LP, it’s still very much a signature Coldplay track.

This is a track from a band in Leicester, UK who may or may not still be active. They were actually briefly under the management of my flatmate Dave from university (which is why I probably can no longer find any info about them anywhere :-P). They won a couple of the Battle of the Band competitions around the area and made an EP called “Cracks in the Ceiling” from which I managed to salvage a song from which I simply call “Track 1” as I don’t actually know what the title is. I’m glad I can share this song because there pretty much would be no way for people to get to listen to it otherwise. It’s a brilliant recording, very pure and stripped down with good vocals and nice acoustic sounds.

Another track discovered via Pandora.com (how many times have I said that now?). This is actually a live recording of a reggae track which I decided to share as opposed to the studio recording because it has such great energy and enthusiasm that you hear in the performance. The lyrics are also actually really great and inspirational but they come thick and fast in this live version so if you want to study them I recommend that you get your hands on the album version which is a far more chilled out. However, you will end up losing a lot of the energy which is what makes this live recording so good.

Scrubs has so much awesome music on the show. Although the show is getting incredibly tiresome coming into it’s sixth season (seasons 1-3 ftw), the music is still spot on each time. This was played at the end of season five and what a track to go out. Haven’t stopped listening to it since I found it. Happy, bouncing, upbeat, energetic with tongue-in-cheek lyrics. Just awesome.
